Architectural Projects in Santa Monica, CA and Beyond

Fifth Street House, Santa Monica, CA

Situated on an interior lot in the Ocean Park section of Santa Monica, this project presents the need for a design that provides comfortable and private outdoor space despite the long, multi-family apartment buildings on each side of the property.  This issue will be resolved by re-orienting the house through placement of the main living spaces on the second floor.  There will be a direct interior and exterior connection to the rooftop, equipped with expansive decks and a swimming pool.  The first floor will house the bedrooms, each with its own private, fenced in garden that fully integrates the interior space with the exterior through floor to ceiling windows and glass doors.

The house will be constructed completely from steel and concrete along with a metal cladding and stucco exterior.  The rooftop deck will include a shade pavilion made from photovoltaic cells, which will provide the house with close to 100% free electricity.  The stainless steel, saltwater lap pool will be heated by solar pool heating panels as well.  The house will feature 100% storm water retention along with large sliding glass doors providing an abundance of light and ventilation.
